Groundbreaking – August 25, 2008
After many years of pursuing this historical project, the Damascus Heritage Society had their groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, August 25, 2008. The first phase of the construction project will be to prepare the foundation and place the portable classroom, donated by the Montgomery County School Board, on the foundation and make the temporary museum handicapped accessible. The groundbreaking ceremony took place at 3PM on Monday, August 25 behind the Damascus Library at 9071 Main Street where the temporary museum will be located. On hand for the ceremony were many friends and distinguished guests including Mike Knapp, County Councilmember; Catherine Mathews, Director of the Upcounty Regional Services Center who presented a certificate of appreciation from Ike Leggett, and Jeanette Mendonca representing Senator Rona Kramer.
